The girls were up ahead taking care of the dog. Dog sitting has been one more thing that has shown their nurturing/mothering tendencies.
The boy was falling behind as he focused on gathering as many sticks and logs as he could find. 
My hunter/gatherer who gets loved on quite a bit by his nurturing sisters. Sometimes the differences between the two genders is extremely obvious.
